Obituary

Albert E. Meehan, of Rowley, formerly of Melrose, died at the Masconomet Healthcare in Topsfield on July 28, 2014 at the age of 91. Albert was born in Everett, raised in Chelsea and a graduate of Chelsea High School. Albert was a Sea Scout in 1939 for several years before serving his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII on 3 Aircraft Carriers. Albert flew as a back seat spotter for bombers off the USS Saratoga, also on the USS Hornet at Midway and on the USS Yorktown from 1941-1945. After return for the war, he worked as a Letter Carrier for the Post Office for over 35 years before his retirement in 1984. Albert resided in Melrose for most of his life, several years in Plymouth and the past 15 years in Rowley. He loved spending his time at the ocean at York Beach, Maine, listening to big band music and playing the saxophone. Albert was a dog lover, enjoyed skiing and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the most important part of his life. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to the late Agnes I. (Mahoney) Meehan. Loving father of Thomas K. Meehan & his wife Lisa of Duxbury, Mary-Lynn Lawless & her fiancé Dave Harrell of Rowley, Robert J. Meehan of Gloucester, Susanne L. Meehan of VA and Jennifer A. Will & her husband Jack of Franklin. Cherished grandfather of Timothy, Meghan, Thomas, Courtney, Amy, Katelyn, Kevin, Sean, Andrew, Connor & Dennis. Caring great grandfather of Grey, Benjamin, Charlotte, Ryan, Stella Rose, William & Tony "LT" and new arrival & namesake Albert. Devoted brother of the late Catherine Wolsey, Helen Juliano, Mabel Armstrong and Joseph, Frank & Thomas Meehan. Also survived by many cherished nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday, August 1st at 11:15AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 12:30PM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:00-8:00PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Masconomet Resident Counsel Fund, 123 High St., Topsfield, MA 01983.
