Alfred R. Al Porcaro of Melrose, 78, passed away April 17, 2005, after a lengthy illness. Born in Everett, Al was a veteran of the Coast Guard and served during WWII. He was the co-founder & owner of Melrose Appliance Inc., also known as Hugos of Melrose. Big Al ran the business for 53 years and also enjoyed golfing. Devoted husband of the late Mary E. (Sampson) Porcaro with whom they shared 53 years of marriage. They lived in Melrose for 52 years and summered in Harwichport for 35 years. Loving father of Janet M. Porcaro & her husband Eliot Winograd of Newton, Alfred R. Porcaro Jr. & his wife Diane, Robert M. Porcaro & his wife Sandra, all of Melrose and Mary Ellen Madden & her husband Jack of N. Andover. Brother of Theresa Porcaro of Everett. Cherished grandfather of Daniel Winograd, Jennifer, Aimee, Alfred R. III, Sharon, Gregory, Nicholas & Christopher Porcaro, Brian Goodhue and Jillian Lee Madden. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, April 22nd at 10AM. Funeral Mass at Church of the Incarnation 465 Upham St., Melrose at 11AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
