It is with great sorrow that our family announces the passing of our dear brother, Allen Blair Hemenway, 70, on July 12th, after a brief illness. Born in Winchester, and raised in Melrose, he was a graduate of Melrose HS, class of 1971. He was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Norma (Deschenes) Hemenway. He is survived by his siblings, Helen Juckins, of Holden, Cynthia Hemenway, of Stoneham, Deborah (Charles) Gibson, of South Carolina, Phillip (Debra) Hemenway, of Michigan, Mark Hemenway, of Somerville, Lisa (David) Tyler, of Lowell, and Andrea (John) Lynch, of Holliston, Barbara Wright, of Melrose. He also leaves behind loving nieces and nephews, Christopher (Scott Mario) Juckins, Anne Marie (Travis) Zukowski, Ashley Wright, Bethany Wright, Cecilia (Noah) Taylor, Christy Trapillo, Sarah (Cameron) Grob, Janelle Hodge (Brian Bozzi), Allison Lynch, Ryan Lynch, Winny Grob, William Grob, Grace Phinny, Ronan Trapillo, and Calvin Bozzi.

Allen was devoted to his Christian religion. He enjoyed attending Sunday services and was an enthusiastic reader of the Bible and could quote from scripture. Even after he lost much of his eye-sight, Al referred to his Bible to cope with his sadness, which helped him deal with mental health issues he battled all his life.

Allen enjoyed following all Boston sports teams and especially enjoyed Sunday afternoons with family at his sister's homes, rooting for the NE Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and the Celtics.

The family is especially grateful to the staff at Timothy Daniels House, Holliston, where Allen thrived, and was happy, due to the dedicated care he received there.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 4 to7 PM, followed by a funeral service at Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
