Obituary

Amilio 'Mil' A. Minichiello, 86, of Haven Health Center in Hampton, New Hampshire and previously of Melrose, Massachusetts died from complications related to Alzheimers disease. Mr. Minichiello was born on February 18, 1917 in Boston, Massachusetts and was raised in Framingham and East Boston, Massachusetts. He attended Mechanic Arts High School (J.D. OBryant School for Mathematics and Science) in Boston. He played baseball and football during high school and after graduating continued playing both sports in the Boston Park League for a number of years. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp stationed in Germany as a Sergeant with the 9th Air Force. Before his military service in the Army Air Corp, he worked at the Boston Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter. After the war, he returned to the Navy Yard where he resumed his duties. During his career, he received citations and production awards for his work quality. While at the Navy Yard he was promoted to a position that helped manage Methods and Standards for work performance. After more than 30 years of service, he retired from the Navy Yard in 1973. After retiring, he resided in Nashua, New Hampshire for 25 years, where he was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. His interests included all sports with a life long interest in the Boston Red Sox as well as in Minor League Baseball. His four granddaughters provided him with pride and enjoyment throughout his retired life. Surviving are his beloved wife, Rosalie Marie (O'Brien) Minichiello, whom he married in 1949; one son James and his wife Pamela, of Dunkirk, Maryland: three daughters, Jo Ann Watson and her husband Robert of Durham, New Hampshire, Madaline Minichiello of Malden, Massachusetts, and Pamela Minichiello of Concord, Massachusetts; a beloved brother Anthony Minichiello of Boston; four grandchildren; Kelly Watson of Dover, New Hampshire, Gail Minichiello of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Tracey Minichiello of Quincy, Massachusetts, and Meredith Watson of Dover, New Hampshire. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Tues. Feb. 10th at 8AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8PM. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.
