Andrew W. "Andy" Crowther passed away at home on July 14, 2014. He was 81 years of age. Mr. Crowther was born in Stoneham on July 22, 1932, was raised in Stoneham and graduated from Stoneham High School and East Coast Aerotech. He entered the US Navy in 1952 and served his country with pride during the Korean Conflict. Andy worked as an aircraft mechanic for 32 years; first at Northeast Airlines and then finished his career at Delta Airlines. Mr. Crowther enjoyed working with his hands fixing automobiles and doing small engine repair for friends and family. Andy was a longtime resident of Melrose, a member of St. Mary's Church, the Irish American Club and the VFW Harold O'Young Post # 2394 in Melrose. He loved spending time with his family and with his twin brother Bill. Andy was the devoted husband of 58 years to Mary E. (Donovan) Crowther. Loving father of Andrew W. Crowther Jr. & his wife Jody of Lynnfield, Maureen E. Rice & her husband Steven of Melrose, Robert E. Crowther & his wife Dorothea of Boxford and James F. Crowther of Melrose. Cherished twin brother of William D. Crowther of Melrose and brother of the late Mary T. Clausmeyer. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Visiting hours will be held at St. Mary's Church, 4 Herbert St. Melrose, on Thursday, July 17th from 5:00-8:00PM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's on Friday at 10:00AM. Burial with military honors at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. US Navy Korean Conflict Veteran.
