Andrew J. Mastrangelo, a retired Everett School administrator, died at his Melrose home on Thursday of complications from metastatic melanoma. He was 62. Born in Everett, one of four children of Nicholas and Antonetta Mastrangelo, he graduated from Salem State College with a degree in education, later earning both a Masters degree in counseling and a CAGS in administration from Suffolk University. As a teacher and administrator at his hometown Everett High School for more than three decades, Mr. Mastrangelo was president of the Everett Teachers Association, chaired the NEASC Steering Committee, and spent six years as the head football coach at Parlin Junior High School. An avid sportsman, Mr. Mastrangelo spent time hunting and fishing in Maine and participating in activities with the Massachusetts Rifle Association in Woburn. A passionate craftsman, he restored not only his 100-year-old Melrose home, but also a 1957 MGA coupe and a 1928 Herreshoft wooden sailboat. His one and only true love was his wife Mary (Barstow), whom he met in his early career at Everett High School. A resident of Melrose since 1973, Mr. Mastrangelo served as president of the Melrose PTO and coached youth sports for many years. In addition to his wife, Mr. Mastrangelo leaves a son Andrew J. Mastrangelo Jr. and his wife Elizabeth (Torpey), a daughter MaryKate Isakson and her husband Hunter, all of Melrose, and a granddaughter, Madeline E Mastrangelo.
