Obituary

Ann (Harrington) Malley, of Melrose, formerly of Chester, PA, died peacefully on March 17, 2016 at the age of 91. Ann was born in Chester, PA on November 9, 1924 to John and Elizabeth (Murray) Harrington. Ann was raised in Chester and graduated from Chester High School. She met the love of her life, the late Edward P. Malley, and the two were married and had six children they raised in Melrose. Ann worked as a bookkeeper for Westinghouse for many years. But most importantly, she was a dedicated mother who raised her children and ran a busy household. Ann was a woman of tremendous faith, she even traveled to Rome, Jerusalem, and Lourdes, France to visit the Holy Sites. Ann was always busy helping others. She volunteered for the Bread of Life in Malden, Project Triangle, wrote the bulletin at St. Mary's, and often led the Rosary Prayers at local nursing homes. You could say she was a "Professional Volunteer". Ann was also a longtime member of the St. Mary's Ladies Sodality. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend. Always surrounded by family, and willing to help anyway she could, whether it was babysitting or anything else. Ann had many friends she kept up with over the years. Through letters, or phone calls, it was very important for Ann to keep intact her lifelong friendships. Ann will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward P. Malley. Loving mother of Ed Malley & his wife Nancy of Wakefield, Maureen Malley of Melrose, Michael Malley & his wife Judy of Tewksbury, Peter Malley & his wife Elizabeth of Everett, Ann Malley of Melrose, and Jack Malley & his wife Michele of Reading. Proud "Mom-Mom" of Christopher, Nicholas, Stephanie, Steven, John, Mike, Jacqueline, Jessica, Mark, and six great-grandchildren. Youngest of seven children and also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a close network of friends. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2016 from 2-6 PM at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 10 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Mary's Church, Melrose at 11 AM. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the St. Mary's Parish Building Fund, 46 Myrtle St., Melrose, MA 02176.
