Ann E. (Lyons) Smith of Melrose passed away in Wake Forest, NC on Wednesday, May 7th after a long illness.
Born in Chicopee, MA on September 16, 1922, raised in Chicopee and graduated from Chicopee High School. Mrs. Smith had lived in Melrose since the end of WWII. The wife of the late James F. Smith, a lifelong resident of Melrose, and a WWII veteran, Mrs. Smith met her late husband at Westover Air Force Base where she worked within the Norden bombsight project. Ann was a former member of the VFW LT Norman Prince Post #1506 Ladies Auxiliary.
She leaves one a daughter, Kathryn M. Filmore of Wake Forest, NC, a son, retired Melrose Police Sergeant James F. Smith Jr. of Wakefield, one sister Joan Mullen of Saugus, numerous deceased brothers and sisters, five grandchildren, Jaclyn Filmore & James Filmore of Wake Forest, NC, Jaclyn Smith of Belmont, Jamie (Smith) Daly and Catie Smith of Wakefield, two great grandchildren, Kaila Gendron of Belmont and Mason J. Daly of Wakefield.
There will be a small private remembrance for family & friends at Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. St. Melrose, on Monday May 12th, 2008 at 9:00AM in celebration of her life. Interment will take place at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
