Anne Marie (Byrne) Amundson, of Malden, died on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Life Care Center of Stoneham. She was 79 years of age. Born on March 29, 1929 in Melrose to the late Lawrence & Viola (Brown) Byrne, she was raised in Melrose and attended Melrose Schools. Anne worked as a waitress for the Melrose Donut Shop for a few years, Giant Value & Lyman's Groceries Stores and as a receptionist for Avenue Hair Design of Melrose for 10 years. She enjoyed vacationing to Wells Beach, Maine, North Conway, crafts, crocheting, cake decorating, bingo and bocce. Anne would make ginger bread houses for her family and friends for many years. She loved her close knit family and was very supportive in all their endeavors. She was the devoted wife of Charles L. Amundson of Malden, with whom she shared 48 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of Fred W. Somers, Jr. & his wife Diane of North Conway & Saugus, Linda A. Rafferty & her husband John of North Conway & Melrose &Lawrence D. Amundson of Everett. Cherished grandmother of Sandra L. Giandomenico of Everett, Fred W. Somers, III & his wife Nicole of Peabody, Ethan Tomas G. Somers of North Conway, Christopher R. Rafferty & his wife Eliza of Brooklyn, NY & Jennifer R. Rafferty of Somerville. Great grandmother of Kayla, Tyler, Taylor & Hunter. Caring sister of James Byrne & his wife Marion, Francis Byrne, David Byrne, Dorothy Goldstein & the late Katherine Harnden, Lawrence, Frank & Richard Byrne. Sister-in-law of Anna Schlauderoff, Dorothy Amundson, Florence Hensell, Vernon Amundson & the late Leonard Amundson. Also survived by many nieces, nephews & cousins. Visiting hours Wed. Nov. 19th from 4-8PM in the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose followed by a funeral service at 8PM. Family & friends respectfully invited. Interment is private.
