IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anne
Fremont-Smith
October 1, 1932 – December 30, 2024
Anne Fremont-Smith, a beloved wife, mother, and community leader, passed away peacefully at her home in Newburyport, MA, on December 30, 2024.
Born in Malden, MA, Anne was raised in Melrose, where she attended and graduated from Melrose High School. A bright and driven student, she continued her education at Radcliffe College, earning a degree that reflected her sharp intellect and love of learning.
Anne married her devoted husband, Thayer Fremont-Smith, and together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. While raising her family, Anne served as the coordinator of the (C.C.D.) program at the Incarnation Parish in Melrose, sharing her faith and values with the next generation.
Anne was also deeply committed to her community. She was an active member of the League of Women Voters, as well as working tirelessly at Project Bread in Boston, contributing to their mission to combat hunger until her retirement in 1994. Her passion for the arts was evident in her role as a former board member of the Melrose Symphony Orchestra, where she supported music and culture in her hometown.
Anne's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her four sons, Matthew Fremont-Smith of Providence, RI, James Fremont-Smith Newburyport, MA, Thomas Fremont-Smith of Newburyport, MA and Phil Fremont-Smith of Lyndeborough, NH and her nine grandchildren in whom she held enormous pride. Her enduring love, wisdom, and kindness will forever remain in all of their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Anne's memory to Project Bread or the Melrose Symphony Orchestra.
