Anne E. (O'Keefe) O'Brien, of Melrose, died at home on Nov. 28, 2013 at the age of 86. Anne was born in 1926 at home, in Chelsea, to Dennis and Edith O'Keefe. During the Depression, the family moved to Everett after losing their home to fire. The oldest of nine, she was raised in Everett and attended Immaculate Conception High School. She resided in Everett until marriage in 1951 and the past 62 years in Melrose. Her Joy was her family. Her Love was both radiant and palpable, embodying the virtues of humility, charity, and a deep and active Faith. An extraordinary creativity manifested in many ways, including painting, poetry, calligraphy, reading as well as her great cooking. Her Love and energy were boundless. Anne was devoted to her vocation as mother, and the Catholic family tradition of Love for all. Any one in need knew they could count on her. She was a very active member at St. Mary's Church and school community, establishing St. Mary's PTA in the '60's. She was always "at Church", volunteering. The "Variety" and Fashion" shows at Memorial Hall, whose production she led, were to raise funds for the School. In later years Anne was active at the Church of the Incarnation. Throughout her life, she was a great friend of all Sisters Religious, having many friends among the Faithful and Clergy. Anne loved kids, grandkids and their kids. She loved others kids, and touched many in her large circle of friends. She was the beloved wife of the late Fire Chief Francis B. O'Brien for 50 years. Loving mother of Mary C. O'Brien of Melrose, Paula Govostes & her late husband Diamond of Everett, Retired Melrose Fire Chief John J. O' Brien & his wife Carol of Malden, Timothy J. O'Brien & his wife Sheri of Holliston, James B. O'Brien & his late wife Terri of Melrose and Andrea L. Coleman & her husband Dan of Saugus. Caring sister of Patricia Devine, Christopher O'Keefe and the late Kathleen Pompeo, Sister Maureen O'Keefe L.S.A., John, Dennis, William & James O'Keefe. Cherished grandmother of 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. A special thanks to Shannon Fitzgerald of Methuen who's gift of compassion and comfort was deeply appreciated by Anne and family. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, Dec. 2nd from 10:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 11:30AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2-4PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
