Anthony Michael Roselli, age 72, died suddenly on February 9, 2021.
Anthony ("Tony") was born on March 12th, 1948 to the late Samuel and Connie Roselli and grew up in Medford. He spent 35 years raising his family in Melrose before relocating to Reading in 2014.
Beloved husband of Patricia (Minogue) Roselli of Medford for nearly 50 years. Devoted father of daughters Alison Lehanski and husband David of Ridgewood, NJ, and Melissa Madden and husband Jason of Melrose, and son Matthew Roselli and wife Michelle of Rocklin, CA. Loving grandfather of Josh, Sam, and Ben Madden, Eddie and Leo Lehanski, and Luca Roselli.
Dear brother of Rosalie D'Angelo and husband Louis of Stoneham, Beverly Bucci and husband Jack of Medford, Frank Roselli and wife Anne Gallagher of Somerville, and the late Joan Devlin and husband Bill of Tewksbury, MA. And dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Tony was happiest spending time with family and close friends, sharing great food and friendly banter. He loved spending summers overlooking the beautiful beach and rocky coast of Ogunquit, ME. A jazz and rock drummer in his younger years, Tony's passion for music continued throughout his life and he could be found every August at the Newport Jazz Festival with his children.
Tony will also be remembered for his life-long dedication to education. After graduating from Malden Catholic High School in 1966, he went on to study at Boston University, where he received degrees in Secondary Education and Foreign Languages (BA, 1970), French Language and Literature (MA, 1972) and Education (EdD, 1982).
Tony spent the first part of his career as an educator sharing his love of languages with students in numerous Massachusetts public school districts, including more than a decade as Head of Foreign Languages for Milton Public Schools where he founded the Total Immersion French Program. After pursuing leadership roles in curriculum and administration, Tony spent more than two decades as professor of education at Merrimack College until retiring in 2018. His ideas about education are best summarized in his book, Dos and Don'ts of Education Reform: Toward a Radical Remedy for Educational Failure, published in 2004. Throughout his career, Tony's kindness, intellect, and sense of humor made him beloved by his high school and college students.
Due to gathering restrictions, the Funeral Services and Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Tony's name to The NEA Foundation (www.neafoundation.org) and Boston Children's Hospital (www.childrenshospital.org).
