Obituary

Anthony J. Velluto passed away at the Rosewood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Peabody, on March 15, 2007. He was 95 years of age. Mr. Velluto was born in Teramo, Italy, came to the US at the age of 5, was raised in Melrose and attended Melrose Schools. He lived most of his life in Melrose and in Florida the past 25 years. Tony summered at Bow Lake in NH for the past 62 years. He was a scientific glass blower working for MIT during WWII and after the war for over 25 years. In 1954, he started the Ryan, Velluto & Anderson Company with two friends. He continued his work making lab and scientific equipment until he retired at the age of 70. After retirement, he worked at the Great American Golf Club in Fort Lauderdale, FL until the age of 92. Mr. Velluto was one of the founding members of Incarnation Church in Melrose, was a founding member of the Camp Owners Association at Bow Lake, and a member of the Melrose Fish & Game Club. He was also very proud to be a member of the Melrose & Ft. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Kiwanis Clubs, where he helped raise money and run Special Olympics. Tony was an avid golfer playing in Florida and the Nippo Lake Golf Club in NH. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather. Family was everything to Tony. He was the beloved husband of 69 years to Virginia M. (Masiello) Velluto. Loving father of Anthony J. Velluto Jr. of Newmarket, NH, John F. Velluto & his wife Florence of Marblehead and Mary V. Velluto of Peabody. Cherished brother of Josephine LaMattina of FL and the late Angelo Velluto. Devoted grandfather of Ann, Lisa, Christopher, Matthew, David, & Nathan. Also survived by 6 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on March 17th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Friday 4-8PM. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Special Olympics Massachusetts 450 Maple Street, Bld# 1 Danvers, MA 01923
