Anthony "Tony" Caiazzo West passed away at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading on March 17, 2014. He was 92 years of age. He was born in Siano, Italy, was raised in Italy and came to the United States at the age of 8 on the ship Vulcania traveling from Naples, Italy to Ellis Island in New York. He lived in Everett for many years, attended Everett schools and has been a resident of Melrose since 1966. Tony entered the US Navy in 1943 and served his country with pride for 4 years during WWII. After WWII Anthony worked as a sheet metal worker at General Electric in Everett & Lynn for 35 years. Tony enjoyed puttering around his home and had the ability to fix anything. He was a hard worker and a dedicated husband, father, brother and grandfather - a man who cherished the times spent with his family. Tony loved big band music, old movies, Cary Grant, old westerns and he could be described as an "old school guy". He was also a longtime member of the Melrose YMCA, where he had many friends. Anthony was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Elizabeth M. (Merola) West. Father of Richard N. West, Kenneth A. West both of Melrose, Maryjean E. Kimball & her husband Brent of Nahant & Freedom, NH, Paul J. West of Louisville, KY and Elizabeth A. Kuhlmann & her husband Richard of Manchester, NH. Grandfather of Ashley McCarthy, Genevieve, Annalise & Graham Kuhlmann. Brother of the late Dulcie DiSanto, Josie Giannino, Rocky, Louis & Gerald Caiazzo. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday, March 24th at 11AM, followed by an interment with military honors at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives & friends are invited to attend.
