Antonette A. (Barbaro) Hurwitz passed away at the Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea on January 6, 2016. She was 91 years of age. She was born in Boston on July 23, 1924 to the late Charles & Angelina (Macaluso) Barbaro. Antonette was raised in the North End of Boston, lived in Everett for several years and most of her life in Salem. Mrs. Hurwitz worked as a bookkeeper for over many years at Comet Leather in Peabody. Antonette was dedicated to her family and was always there to help any of her relatives in need. She was a loving Godmother and Aunt to many nieces and nephews and loved going to the Opera with her mother. Mrs. Hurwitz enjoyed traveling, was an avid bowler, enjoyed doing word search puzzles and loved all her dogs. Antonette loved spending time with family, going out with the girls and was very generous to numerous local charities. She was the beloved wife of the late Philip Hurwitz. Devoted sister of Joseph Barbaro of FL and the late Salvatore, Charles, Anthony & Frankie Barbaro. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews & friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday, January 11, 2015 from 4:00-7:00PM. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 12th at 8:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose, at 9:00AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Memorial contributions may be made in Antonette's name to a charity of choice.
