Obituary

Arlene E. (Harris) Rice, of Peabody, formerly of Gloucester and Melrose, died peacefully at home on December 5, 2024 at the age of 92. She was born in Boston, MA on March 14, 1932, to the late Frances (Doucette) and Timothy Harris. Arlene was raised in East Boston and Medford, graduating from Medford High School in 1950. She was a fun person to be around with a great sense of humor. She loved to be with her family and playing Rummikub with her friends.

Beloved wife of the late William A. Rice. Loving mother of William A. Rice, Jr., Paula J. Marshall & her husband Frank, Kevin M. Rice, the late Thomas J. Rice and his wife Janice. Caring grandmother of Olivia Neumann & her husband Christopher, Melony Rice, Julia Marshall & her fiancé Justin Azulay, Victoria Rice, and Andrew Marshall. Proud great-grandmother of William Neumann. Loving sister of Elizabeth Young, Ellen Richardson, and the late Richard Harris, Barbara Holden, and Pauline English. Also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St., Melrose, on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 10:00AM. Family and friends may gather at Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose from 8:30-9:30AM prior to the mass. Interment to follow the mass at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St., Peabody. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Caring for a Cure for the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center.
