Arthur H. MacKinnon passed away in Stoneham, on October 10, 2005, he was 93. Arthur was born and raised in Everett, graduated from Everett High School, Class of 1928, Bentley College, Class of 1930 and served as a member of the Presidents Advisory Committee and Past President of the Alumni Assoc. at Bentley for many years. Arthur lived in Everett most of his life and in Melrose for the past 36 years. Mr. MacKinnon started his career as the Everett City Auditor from 1936 to 1955 and as Town Comptroller for Brookline from 1955-1962. In 1962 he started working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in various positions; Director of Accounts, Emergency Finance Board, Deputy Commissioner for Fiscal Affairs and more importantly as the State Comptroller, retiring in 1976. Arthur also served the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in several capacities on the Civil Service Commission, Massachusetts Superior Court and for the Office of the State Treasurer. Mr. MacKinnon was a member of the Board of Directors for Everett Co-operative Bank from 1948-2004, serving as Chairman of the Board from 19712004 and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Brookline Municipal Credit Union from 1956-1964. He was a founding member and on the Board of Directors for the Everett Visiting Nurses Assoc. from 1946-1973 and was on the Advisory Board for the Whidden Hospital in Everett for many years. In his early years Arthur was a member of St. Theresas Church in Everett where he served as Chairman of the School Building Drive, he was founding director of the Everett Little League, a member and Past President of the Everett Rotary. Arthur was a dedicated member of Incarnation Church in Melrose, serving on the Finance Council, the Pastors Advisory Board, the Parish Council and as an Eucharistic Minister and Lector at church. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. (MacLennan) MacKinnon. Father of Peter A. MacKinnon & his wife Suzanne of Melrose and Paul R. MacKinnon & his wife Kathleen Foley of Holden. Grandfather of Kelly A. Manuel of Weymouth, Peter A. MacKinnon Jr. of Salem, Meaghan L. MacKinnon of Chestnut Hill & Kevin M. MacKinnon of Boston. Brother of the late Edna Mae Johnson, Alice, Florence & Charles MacKinnon. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thurs. October 13th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in The Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Wed. 4-8PM. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Everett.
