B. Frances (Bigley) Durney passed away at her home in Melrose on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. She was 94 years of age. Frances was born in Nova Scotia, raised in Everett and graduated from Everett High school, Class of 1937. Mrs. Durney has been a resident of Melrose since 1951 where she raised her 11 children. Fran was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church, was a member of St. Mary's Ladies Sodality and the 3rd Order of St. Francis at the Arch street Shrine in Boston. She was a wonderful cook and a dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Fran was a former member of the Melrose Women's Bowling League, enjoyed walking and swimming at the Melrose YMCA. Mrs. Durney was the beloved wife of Charles A. Durney. Loving mother of Pamela M. Johansen of Winchester, Paul R. & Charles A. both of FL, Peter T of S. Dennis, Thomas E. & Patricia A. Durney both of Melrose, Christopher M. of NH, Maryellen Balfour of Melrose and the late Peggy Kelly-Nichols and James M. & John P. Durney. Sister of Clara Sullivan of Everett, Anita Hughes of N. Reading and predeceased by 7 other siblings. Also survived by 21 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Saturday, April 12th at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00-8:00PM. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
