Obituary

Barbara (Bennett) Lewis-Mahoney passed away after complications from surgery, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, on October 1, 2010. She was 88 years of age. Barbara was born in Worcester on March 10, 1922 to the late Byron K. & Alma (Morin) Bennett. She was raised in the Wollaston section of Quincy & then in Brookline, graduated from Brookline High School in 1941 and from Emery College, Class of 1945. Mrs. Lewis-Mahoney worked as a court stenographer for the Boston Superior Court for 15 years and then as an administrative assistant to the Saugus Town Administrator for 25 years, retiring in 1980. Barbara was an avid golfer, a longtime member of Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose and was the ladies golf champion for several years. She enjoyed the times spent at her bowling league and with her bridge group. Mrs. Lewis-Mahoney was a former member and past president of the Saugus Planning Board and was the first woman president of the New England Public Purchasing Officials. Barbara was the loving wife of the late Henry A. Mahoney & the late Dana B. Lewis. Cousin of Donna Flagg-Brown & her husband Vernal Brown of Lakeview, AK. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Barbara will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thursday, October 7th at 10AM. Relatives & friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours. Wed. from 6:00-8:00PM. Interment in Riverside Cemetery in Saugus. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, 01701.
