Barbara E. "Betty"(Hannon) Morrison of Peabody, formerly a longtime resident of Melrose, died on Saturday, January 22, 2011 from complications related to lung cancer, surrounded by her devoted family. She was the eldest in a family of 4 children, married Allan D. Morrison, the eldest in a family of 5 children, in 1960. They were blessed with 7 children & 9 grandchildren. Mrs. Morrison was born in Boston on January 29, 1938, a daughter to John T. & Frances C. (McDonough) Hannon. She met her husband while they worked at Texaco and after their marriage and his graduation from Northern University, while her husband was beginning his civil engineering career, they moved to New York, Indiana, Oklahoma, Virginia & Rhode Island, before settling in Melrose in 1966. They enjoyed a number of vacations to Ireland, connecting with a number of far-flung relatives, and she enjoyed genealogy. Since 1966, they enjoyed vacations in Prince Edward Island, eventually building a cottage in Darnley and spending summers there. PEI was a magical place for her and she never tired of the beautiful views and the wonderful people. She worked for Texaco prior to the birth of her first child and much later worked for several years at the Parish of the Incarnation in Melrose before serving as the office manager for the Allan Morrison Home Inspection Company, retiring in 2005. She was a parishioner of Incarnation Church until 2010, when her husband's health prompted them to sell the family house on Upham St. and move to Brookby Village in Peabody. She enjoyed the community she found there, and made many new friends. Betty was the devoted wife of 50 years to Allan D. Morrison, cherished mother & mother-in-law of Eileen Morrison & Michael Jablon of Newton, Barbara Morrison & Andrew Lopenzina of The Woodlands, TX, Allan D. Jr. & Anne Morrison of Acton, Sheila & Brad Harmon of Derry, NH, James & Kelli (Murphy) Morrison of Charlestown, Brian Morrison & his fiance Kristin Peszka of Somerville & Coleen & Stephen Greco of Milford. Her great sense of humor, whoopee pies & other baked goods will be missed by her adored grandchildren Katherine & Alexander Jablon; Dylan Lopenzina & Amelia Morrison; Joshua Harmon; Seamus & Brendan Morrison; Christopher & Colin Greco. Loving sister & sister-in-law to John T. & Barbara Hannon of Yarmouthport, David P. Hannon of Jamaica Plain, Frances & Paul Giacobbe of Warwick, RI, Andrew & Patricia Morrison of FL & Maine, George Howard & Joan Morrison of New Haven, CT, Paul & Dale Morrison of Hampstead, NH & Donald & Joann Morrison of Derry, NH. She also leaves 15 surviving nieces & nephews & many great nieces & great nephews. She is survived by her Dear Aunt Catherine (McDonough) Sgroi of West Roxbury. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Betty's life will be held at the Parish of the Incarnation 425 Upham St., Melrose on Monday, January 24th at 11AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited.
