Brian Rowlands of Melrose died peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the age of 60. Born on July 26, 1952 in Wales, he was raised in Holyhead, Wales and graduated from London University. Mr. Rowlands lived in Toronto, Canada and Halifax, Nova Scotia before moving to the United States in 1987 and resided in Melrose for the past 25 years. He worked for Hanscomb Company of Canada, the Chartwell Company of Cambridge, Massachusetts, as a Chief Estimator for the Macomber Company of South Boston and finally as the Director of Technical Services and Vice President of Bovis Lend Lease International of Boston. Brian was a Fellow of the British Chartered Institute of Building, was a great photographer and enjoyed working with his hands. He loved traveling, snorkeling, gardening and playing Rugby. He was the devoted husband of Katharine J. "Kate" (Dowse) Rowlands of Melrose with whom he shared 35 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Thomas H. Rowlands & his wife Beth of Malden, Nicholas O. Rowlands of Melrose & Emily C. Rowlands, also of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of Evan & Lily Rowlands. Caring brother of Allan Rowlands & his wife Pat of London & Ann Hillier & her husband Barry of Wales. Brother-in-law of Gill & Euan Swan of Ottawa, Canada & Jen & Brian Graham of Watford, England. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. A Celebration of Brian's Life will be held in the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, November 13th at 10AM.
