Bruce A. Willis passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. He was 80 years of age. Mr. Willis was born in Somerville, MA on June 4, 1931. He was raised in Malden & Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School where he was a member of the Class A Championship Football Team. Bruce went to Hampton Preparatory School, attended the University of New Hampshire and then entered the US Army where he served his country proudly recieving 3 bronze stars during the Korean War. Mr. Willis lived in Colorado for several years and worked for the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. Upon his return to Massachusetts he worked as a trooper for the Massachusetts State Police for several years before becoming a consultant for Burns National Security Agency in Brighton. Among his numerous jobs throughout his life he also owned and operated a contracting business for several years. Bruce was a resident of Stoneham for over 20 years and was a former town selectman in Stoneham. He enjoyed wintering in Florida with his wife Joan, loved spending time in Farmington & Ossipee, NH, boating, water skiing and snowmobiling and was an avid sports fan, especially football. Mr. Willis liked collecting and rebuilding cars and was a very generous person. Bruce was the beloved husband of the late Joan (Woodward) Willis. Loving father of Pamela J. Blackwell & her husband Howard of Wakefield, Donna J. Cerretani & her husband Thomas of Melrose and John A. Willis of Wakefield. Grandfather of Andrea Barker & husband Brad, Erik Daigle & wife Leslie, Lauren Leary & husband Brendan, Heather McCarthy & husband David, Sarah Coscia & husband Matt, Shawn & Luke Cerretani and Bret Willis. Great grandfather of Bradford, Harrison, Brooke, Evan, Ryan, Tommy, Emma & Brady. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Saturday April 28th at 10AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00-8:00PM. Burial will be private. Former Massachusetts State Trooper & US Army Korean War Veteran.
