Carleton M. Holden, of Lynnfield, formerly of Malden passed away on Tuesday Veterans Day Nov. 11th at the age of 79. Carl 'Pa' Holden was born August 15, 1924 in Malden and was a graduate of Kents Hill in Reedfield, ME. Carl received his B.S. at Northeastern University as an Electrical Engineer & was also a graduate of New England Institute of Anatomy. He served in the Army Air Corps. in WWII and was a B-29 Pilot who was shot down and captured as a POW in Japan just before the end of the war. Carl was a Manager of Commercial Engineering at Champion Lamp Works in Lynn, Sales Engineer for Vorlander Lighting and a Funeral Director for Sprague Funeral Home in Malden. He was a member of IES, Malden Kiwanis, former member of the Lodge of Sterling and a former Deacon at the Centre Congregational Church in Lynnfield. Carl was always quick with a joke, he was known for his lighthearted laugh and caring love for his family. He was the loving husband of Dorothy (Sprague) Holden for 55 years. Devoted father of Suzanne Harbour & her husband Jeffrey of Fort Collins, CO, Scott Holden & his wife Jeannine of Melrose and Reed Holden & his wife Carolyn of Concord. Beloved grandfather of 9 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St. Lynnfield, on Saturday, Nov.15th at 1PM. Immediately following the service, there will be a gathering in the church hall. Relatives & friends invited.Visiting hours will held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday from 3-8PM. Burial in Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St., Lynnfield, MA 01940 or the charity of your choice. WWII Army Air Corps Veteran.
