Catherine E. Kay (McKinley) MacPherson passed from this life on July 30, 2006, at age 84, after a brief illness. Born in Chelsea, MA, she grew up in a large family, graduated from St. Rose Grammar & St. Rose High School in Chelsea and married her husband, Charles, prior to his deployment in the service during World War II. Together, they had seven children. When Charles died an untimely death at age 44, Kay was left with the task of raising seven children alone. Over the course of the years, she worked hard to help her children to reach remarkable heights and worked as a bookkeeper at American Airlines in Boston for 20 years. Kay lived in Chelsea most of her life, four years ago, in the face of medical challenges, she moved to Warrenton, VA, to live with her daughter Elaine and her husband, Ed. Since that time, she has been a remarkable contributor to the Warrenton community and was a devoted member of the Farquier Senior Center. Kay was the wife of the late Charles F. MacPherson. Mother of Bonnie Nash & her husband Harry of CA, Charles MacPherson & his wife Sue of AL, Kate Gove & her husband Guv of Melrose, Elaine Burke & her husband Ed of VA, John MacPherson & his wife Dianne of NH and the late Janet Welsh & Mariellen MacPherson. Sister of Gertrude Murphy of CA & Ruby Palladino of Chelsea. Also survived by 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday Aug. 4th at 8AM. Funeral mass in St. Rose of Lima Church, 601 Broadway Chelsea, at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Thurs. 4-8PM. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. In lieu of flowers contributions in Kays memory may be made to Fauquier Senior Center, 430 East Shirley Ave., Warrenton VA 20186.
