Obituary

Charles R. 'Charlie' Barrett died suddenly at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton on Jan. 21st at the age of 88. Charlie was born and raised in Revere, graduated from Revere High School where he was an all state player in basketball, baseball, football & track. He moved to Melrose in 1962 and was a resident for 39 years before moving to Andover 3 years ago. Mr. Barrett was a WWII veteran serving in the US Army Air Corps. He worked as a civilian for Hanscom Air Force Base in the procurement division for 30 years retiring in 1970. After his retirement he worked for Bjorkman & Lann Real Estate Company in Boston as a real estate agent for another 10 years. Charlie had a passion for golf, was a lifelong member of MT. Hood Golf Course, a member of the Inner Club at MT Hood which he ran for many years and could be found playing golf at MT. Hood daily. Mr. Barrett coached basketball for the CYO league in Melrose, was a member and Past Grand Knight at the Melrose Knights of Columbus in Melrose and also enjoyed his Monday card games at the K of C. Charlie was an avid reader, was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church and a former usher at St. Mary's. He was the husband of Rose (McCormack) Barrett. Father of Bob & his wife Marie of NJ, Pat Stibich & her husband Bob of NJ, Dick & his wife Pat of N.Reading, Barbara Botto & her husband Tom of NH, Jim & his wife Betty of NJ, Bill & his wife Marian of N.Andover, David of Andover, Judy Haberman & her husband Doug of Tewksbury and Paul Barrett & his wife Liz of NH. Brother of the late Herbert & Joseph Barrett. Also survived by 23 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Sat. Jan. 24th at 8AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Friday 4-8PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Assoc. 36 Cameron Ave. Cambridge 02140.
