Obituary

Charles E. Burnett passed away at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, on March 23, 2007, he was 85. Charles was born and raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1939 and the American Institute of Banking. Mr. Burnett worked as a banker for Bank Boston, Middlesex National Bank, and as manager at Baybank in Melrose for many years, retiring in 1998. He was a life long resident of Melrose and a former member of the First United Methodist Church. He served on the board of directors for the Melrose Chamber of Commerce during the 1980s and was a member of the Melrose YMCA. Charlie enjoyed traveling, was an avid golfer, was well known for his generosity & kindness and took great joy in his grandchildren & great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Marguerite E. (Steele) Sampson-Burnett. Stepfather of Frank & John Sampson of Melrose & Ann Cullerton of Westford. Brother of the late Sarah Barnes. Also survived by 8 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thurs. March 29th, at 9AM. Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8PM. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Hallmark Health Hospice, 100 Hospital Rd. Malden, 02148
