Obituary

Charles R. Deering passed away in The Villages, Florida on June 9, 2008 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 63 years of age. Chuck was born in Danvers, raised in Beverly, and graduated from Beverly High School in 1963. He served in the Coast Guard from 1963 1967 and attended Bentley College. He graduated from The New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston and received his Funeral Director's License in 1972. He worked as a Funeral Director at the Gately Funeral Home in Melrose for over 10 years. Chuck worked for the Ahern Painting Company in Melrose as an estimator and vice president, estimating major painting and sandblasting jobs like the Tobin Bridge, the Boston Gas Tank, etc. for over 20 years. He lived in Melrose for 20 years and 12 years in North Reading before retiring to Florida in 2005. He was a longtime member of Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose and the Thomson Country Club in North Reading where he served as Club Secretary for several years. Chuck was an avid golfer and enjoyed woodworking, sailing and had an ice boat which he enjoyed using until his departure for warmer weather. He was a member of Mosaic Lodge, AF & AM of Danvers. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Kathryn (Murray) Deering. He was the son of the late Robert and Doris (Carter) Deering. A memorial service will be held the Maple Street Congregational Church, 90 Maple St. Danvers, on Saturday, Sept. 6th at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Followed by interment in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Sylvan St. Danvers. Contributions may be made in his memory to The Villagers for Hospice, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162
