Obituary

Charles L. Grant passed away in Salem, MA, on September 24, 2019, at the age of 80. Charlie was born in Boston on November 15, 1938 to the late Charles Grant Sr. & Arlean (Dakin) Grant. He was raised in Roxbury and graduated from Charlestown High School. Charlie served his country with pride from 1955-1958 in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Grant lived in Melrose for 20 years and the last 25 years in Salem, MA and Bermuda. Charlie had his CLU,ChFC in Finance and Insurance and has worked in the industry along side his daughter Lauren for many years. He was also a manager for Bermuda Fire & Marine Insurance Company. He was the former owner of the Grant Agency and Angela Grant Realty in Melrose with his late wife Angela Grant. Charlie was a former member of Incarnation Church in Melrose where he volunteered as a lector. He was also very generous to many local charities. Mr. Grant was a past president of the Melrose LIONS Club, a member of the Bermuda LIONS Club and was a member of the Bermuda Masons. He loved spending time at his home on Black Point in Alton Bay, Lake Winnipesaukee, where he enjoyed boating, water skiing and skiing at Gunstock Mountain, as well as boating and jet skiing at his home in Bermuda. Charlie traveled all over the United States and the world, traveling to India, Tuscany, and Cuba and loved the South Pacific Islands to name a few as well as taking cruises to different destinations. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather and will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and the twinkle in his eyes. Mr. Grant was the beloved husband of Dorea L. (Cannonier) Grant and the late Angela (Tarello) Grant. Loving father of Lisa M. Brosnahan & husband Danny of Lynnfield, Lauren K. Grant of Salem & longtime companion Robert Voto, Leslie J. McCarthy & husband Dennis of Burlington, Lana M. Vatalaro of Wolfeboro NH, and stepchildren Renee Wallace-Mayer & her husband Thomas and Eric Wallace & his wife Martha all of Bermuda. Caring brother of Elizabeth Denehy & her husband Tim of Leominster and the late Gerald & Glenn Grant. Cherished grandfather of Ryan, Frank, Sean, John, Jake, Eric & Hunter, Kai, Svana, Ava, Eric, Zack, Maxwell and James. Also survived by numerous, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 4:00-7:00PM. Funeral procession from Gately Funeral Home on Saturday morning September 28th at 9:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose at 10:00AM. Interment with military honors at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Charlie's name to the Melrose Lyons Club, P.O. Box 760699, Melrose, MA 02176.
