Obituary

Charles F. Morrissey passed away suddenly at Beverly Hospital in Beverly, on March 3, 2011. He was 84 years of age. Charles was born in Belmont on January 31, 1927 to the late Joseph & Anne (O'Neil) Morrissey. He was raised in Watertown, graduated from Watertown High School and attended the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston. He served his nation proudly in the US Marines during WWII. Mr. Morrissey has been a resident of Melrose for 53 years and enjoyed summers at his Cape Breton home in Canada, which he built in 1974. He worked for MIT for a short time and then as a technical illustrator for RCA for over 30 years, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed, golfing, hunting, fishing, bowling and woodworking, but painting was his passion. Charles was the beloved husband of 55 years to the late Mary E. "Betty" (Duffy) Morrissey. Loving father of Betty Ann Jolly of Manchester, CT and Jean M. Dillon & her husband Joseph of Topsfield. Cherished grandfather of Katie & Patrick Jolly and Kerry & Laura Dillon. Caring brother of Neil Morrissey of Lincoln and the late Jean Curll & Arthur Morrissey. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Tuesday, March 8th at 8AM. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Charles's life will be held at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Monday from 4:00-8:00PM. Interment in St. Paul's Cemetery in Arlington. WWII Marine Veteran. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles's name may be sent to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005 or a charity of your choice.
