Obituary

Charles S. Palano, of Melrose, died at the Elmhurst Nursing Home in Melrose on Jan. 13th at the age of 76. Chuck was born & raised in Boston, served 4 years in the Coast Guard and was a Melrose resident for many years. He worked as a Side Laster for Stride Rite Shoe Company in Boston for 28 years and the Maintenance Dept. for Tufts University for 8 years. Chuck was a longtime member of the Melrose Sons of Italy and St. Marys Church. He was an avid Patriots fan who loved to travel and take cruises. Chuck was the beloved husband of Helen P. (Limone) Palano. Loving father of Katherine Ruggiero & her husband Paul of Wilmington, Annette DiFilippo & her husband Robert of Revere. Caring brother of Pauline Silipingo & her late husband Frank of Medfield, Joseph Palano & his wife Rose of Saugus, Margaret Oliverio & her husband Joseph of Norwood and the late James Palano & his wife Clara of Roslindale. Cherished grandfather of Paul, Jenna, Taryn and Kyle. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wed. Jan. 18th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours on Tues. from 4-8PM. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Charles memory to Hospice Care Inc. 41 Montavale Ave., Stoneham, MA 02180 or ALS Mass. Chapter, 7 Lincoln St., Wakefield, MA 01880.
