Claire Martello passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on January 19, 2017. She was 86 years of age. Claire was born in Boston, raised in East Boston and graduated from East Boston High School. She and her husband Fred moved to Melrose in 1961 and have been residents ever since. Mrs. Martello owned and operated Cameo Academy Beauty School for over 10 years in Malden. She also worked for her husband's company in the garment district in Boston, operating a clothing machine for the House of Pockets for over 20 years. Mrs. Martello was a longtime member of Incarnation Church in Melrose where she was a CCD teacher for many years. In her younger years she loved to go dancing with her husband Fred, she was an avid reader, a great cook, enjoyed playing games especially BINGO. Claire traveled extensively throughout Europe and spent winters in Santo Domingo and Ft. Lauderhill, FL. But above all she loved spending time with her family. Mrs. Martello was the beloved wife of 67 years to Alfred J. "Fred" Martello. Loving mother of Vincent Martello & his wife Patty of Peabody and Linda Martello Chaplin & her husband Richard of Gonic, NH. Cherished grandmother of Shawn Vincent Martello, Brian Martello Chaplin, Amberly Chaplin, Nicholas Vincent Martello and Karla Ann (Martello) Meoli & her husband Christopher. Proud great grandmother of Vivian & Dominic. Caring sister of Lorraine Andrews, Eleanor Barrisano & Carol Capadalupo. Also survived by nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Tuesday, January, 24, 2017 from 4:00-7:00PM. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 25th at 9:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose at 10:00AM. Burial at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. The Martello family has set up a charitable fund in Claire's name to assist Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for the wonderful care they had given to her over the many years she was a patient there.
