Obituary

Daniel Ed Callahan, of Melrose, died at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on Feb. 20, 2007 at the age of 77. Dan was raised in Malden and graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1947, Huntington Prep. School in Boston & Tuft University, Class of 1952. He played baseball for Malden High School and the City League. Dan also played football & baseball for Tuft University. He worked as an engineer for New England Telephone Co. for over 30 years until his retirement at the age of 58. Dan resided in Melrose and was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield for the past 47 years. He was a member of the Gridiron Club in Boston and New England Telephone Pioneers for many years. Dan was the beloved husband of Clare B. (Bennett) Callahan. Loving father of Nancy Callahan Davis & her husband John of CA and the late Daniel E. Callahan III. Caring brother of Marion Harney & her husband John of CA and Neil R. Callahan & his wife Margaret of NH. Cherished brother in law of Ann Nancy Bennett of Woburn. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday Feb. 24th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Visiting hours will be held prior to the Mass from 9-9:45AM. Contributions may be made in Dans memory to Multiple Sclerosis Society, New England Chapter, 101A First Ave., Waltham, MA 02451.
