Daniel J. Durant, Sr. of Melrose died on Friday, September 7, 2012 at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center in Revere. He was 89 years old. Born on March 13, 1923 in Roxbury, a son to the late George & Mary (Sakaulaukas) Durant, he was raised Malden and graduated from Malden Catholic High School. He then graduated from Boston College in 1944 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and enlisted in the United States Navy and served our country proudly during World War II. Mr. Durant worked as a Zone Manager with Kohler Plumbing Supply for 38 years, retiring in 1987. He was a Melrose resident for 57 years, a member, Senior Alter Server, Lector and Eucharistic Minister of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church of Wakefield. He was also a member of the VFW Harold O'Young Post of Melrose, the Irish American Club of Malden, and the Mystic Valley Canoe & Tennis Club. Daniel was the devoted husband of the late Ellen H. (Howard) Durant, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Loving father of Daniel J. Durant, Jr. & his wife Jill of W. Peabody, Meredith E. Forney & her husband Peter of Virginia, Patrice D. Kamb & her husband John of E. Sandwich & Michael H. Durant & his wife Jane of Lynnfield. Cherished grandfather of Lindsay & Gregory Durant, Matthew Binswanger, Jack, Stephen & Emily Kamb & Martha & Catherine Durant. Also survived by many nieces, nephews & friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Tuesday, September 11th at 9AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10AM.
