Daniel R. Omogrosso, Sr., (Retired Boston Police Officer) of Melrose, died at The Rubin Home in Saugus on Jan. 26, 2018 at the age of 81. Dan was born & raised in Roxbury & a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School, Class of 1955. He served his country in the Army National Guard for 8 years and worked as a Boston Police Officer for 34 years. Dan was on the Boston Police Bomb Squad for 21 years and the Tactical Patrol Force for 11 years before his retirement at the age of 65. Dan was a member of the Boston Police Patrolman's Assoc., the Italian American Police Officer's Assoc. and the International Assoc. of Bomb Technicians & Investigators for many years. He enjoyed working with the Melrose Youth Ballet creating props & the Melrose Band aider's for many years. Dan was very social and loved creating wood carvings and spending time at the family's former summer home in Barrington, NH. He enjoyed spending his time with his wife Lucille traveling to Bermuda, Hawaii, Austria, Portugal, Florida, Spain, England and Italy many times. Dan was the beloved husband of Lucille T. (Quaratiello) Omogrosso for 60 years. Loving father of Daniel R. Omogrosso, Jr & his wife Jean of Windham, NH and Laura T. Omogrosso of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of Daniel "DJ" & Julie Omogrosso. Caring brother of Theresa Carney-Pickwell of Braintree and the late Guy, Michael & Frank Omogrosso, Josephine Imbriano, Jen Cicerone, Amelia "May" Ciavola, Grace Westervoorde and Alba Omogrosso. Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives & friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, Jan. 30th from 4-7 PM. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 31st at 8:45AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Daniel's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
