David John Cornetta passed away at Salem Hospital, on Friday, February 13, 2009; he was 49 years of age. David was born in Everett, raised in Melrose, attended Melrose High School and graduated from ITT Technical School. He lived in Everett for 13 years and most of his life in Melrose. Mr. Cornetta was gifted in anything he tried. He owned and operated a small engine repair shop in Wakefield called Cornetta & Son for 14 years. He was a talented mechanic, carpenter, woodworker, web designer, locksmith and cook. David enjoyed oil painting & sketching, motorcycles, rides to the beach and his last trip to New Hampshire. Mr. Cornetta loved playing video games on the computer, especially tunetown and was in the process of building a website with his daughter to sell his woodworking sculptures and her sketches. David enjoyed taking things apart, reading about treasure hunting & Bigfoot and loved his dog Disel and his cat Cookie. Beloved husband of Clare L. (Hegarty) Cornetta. Loving father of Kristine C., David A., John F., Amy G. and Cheryl M. Cornetta all of Melrose. Devoted son of John M. Cornetta of Malden & Grace M. Cornetta of Melrose. Cherished brother of Lisa G. Cornetta of Everett. Son-in-law of Francis X. Hegarty of Wakefield and his late wife Clare L. Hegarty. Loving uncle of Laura G. Hegarty & Stephen M. Sutton as well as several other nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Wed. Feb. 18th at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Tues. 4-8PM.
