Obituary

Rev. David F. Delaney passed away at Youville Hospital in Cambridge March 5th at the age of 67. Rev. Delaney was born in Revere, raised in Watertown, graduated from Boston College High School and St. John's Seminary in Brighton. He was ordained on Feb. 2, 1961 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston and was assigned as a Parochial Vicar to St. Theresa's Parish in Revere from 1961-1965. Rev. David served as Parochial Vicar at St. Jude in Waltham from 1965 -1971, he served as the Chaplain at Quincy Hospital from 1971 to 1977. After his 6yrs at Quincy Hospital, Rev Delaney entered Team Ministry as a Co-Pastor at St. Denis in Westwood from 1977 to 1987. During those years in Westwood he also served as Episcopal Vicar for the Norwood Brockton Region for 4yrs.. Rev. Delaney served as Co-Pastor in Team Ministry at Sacred Heart Church in Lexington for 2 yrs and from 1989 until his retirement on Jan. 31, 2000 he served as Co-Pastor in Team Ministry at The Church of the Incarnation in Melrose. The funeral mass Principal Celebrant will be His Eminence, Bernard Cardinal Law and the burial will take place in his family's cemetery lot in St. Patrick Cemetery in Watertown MA. Rev. David also enjoyed his summers in Scituate & Humarock. He was the son of the late John F. & Marion B. (Regan) Delaney. Brother of Mrs. Thomas F. (Margaret M.) O'Connell of Milton, Sister Jean Delaney O.P. of North Reading, Paul J. Delaney of Humarock and the late John F. Delaney Jr. & Ann B. Dinneen. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Church of the Incarnation 425 Upham St. Melrose on Friday March 8th at 11AM with Bernard Cardinal Law as Principal Celebrant. Relatives and friends invited. Father Delaney will lie in state at Incarnation Church on Thursday from 2-7 PM. The Rite of Reception of the Body will take place at 2PM on Thursday with The Concluding Rite at 7PM on Thursday evening. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery Watertown. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund, in care of Sister Theresa McManus O.P., 901 Fairdale Rd., Fairdale, KY 40118.
