David L. Finnegan, of Melrose, died at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Wakefield on August 11, 2009 at the age of 79. David was born & raised in Stoneham and a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1948. He went on to receive a degree in History from Boston University and served in the Army as a Sergeant during the Korean War. He lived in Melrose until 1955, Peabody for 16 years and the past 39 years in Melrose. David was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed crossword puzzles, dancing, hunting rides to Rye Beach and spending time with family. He was the loving father of Douglas Finnegan & his wife Nancy of Peabody . Cherished grandfather of Tyler & Jade. Caring brother of Richard Finnegan & his wife Ellen of Reading and the late Pauline Finnegan. Devoted uncle of Jeffrey Finnegan of Reading, David Finnegan & his wife Carole of Woburn, Richard Finnegan of Reading, Kevin Finnegan & his wife Kelly of VT and Christopher Finnegan of Methuen. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday Aug. 15th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Friday from 4-8PM. Burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Stoneham. Korean War Army Veteran.
