David P. Meehan, of Danvers, formerly of Melrose, died at the Twin Oaks Care & Rehab. Center in Danvers on August 29, 2013 at the age of 77. David was born & raised in Melrose, a graduate of Melrose High School in 1954 and went on to attend Merrimack College. He struggled with OCD throughout most of his adult life and with Dementia in his last few years. David was religious and compassionate and a real gentleman. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Mary's Church, for many years and was a great dancer. Mr. Meehan had a number of jobs over the years, including his favorite, the US Postal Service in North Reading, MA. He always remained active, friendly with a great sense of humor and well like by all who came to know him over the years. Most recently, a dedicated group of nurses and caregivers at the Twin Oaks Rehab and Nursing Home along with the Hospice Nurses both of Danvers, MA. He was the loving son of the late Warren & Catherine (Doherty) Meehan. Caring brother of Joseph Meehan & his wife Sandra of ME, Catherine Dunn & her late husband Robert of Melrose, Mary Lou Christopher & her late husband Edward of Medford, Maureen Curdo & her husband Stephen of NH, James Meehan & his wife Patricia of Melrose and the late Joan Harrington & her husband Kevin of Wakefield and the late Ann Marie Barbaro & Sheila Palmetesta. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday Sept. 5th from 8:45-9:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
