Obituary

David Joseph O'Donnell passed away suddenly on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the age of 79. Mr. O'Donnell was born in Charlestown on November 6, 1938. He was the youngest of eight children. He graduated from Charlestown High School, lived in Stoneham for many years and the past 25 years in Melrose. David was the owner of the Yankee Clipper Barber Shop in Melrose since 1977 and was a longtime supporter of Melrose charities. As a teen he had his dream job as a bat boy for the Boston Red Sox during the Ted Williams era, he was a huge Patriots fan, loved listening to Frank Sinatra while enjoying a nice cigar and a martini (shaken not stirred) . He enjoyed riding his bicycle along the New Hampshire and Maine coast line and going golfing in Myrtle Beach with his brother-in-laws. David was the loving father of Sharleen Shea of Berwick, ME, Deborah O'Donnell of Stowe, VT, and Eoin O'Donnell of Stoneham. Grandfather of Bridget, Madelyn, Francis & Edward all of ME, Colin & Fineas of VT and Kelsey of Winchester. Great grandfather of Aiden. Brother of William O'Donnell of S. Boston. Also survived by many nieces, nephews & friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home on Friday, March 16th at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a local Melrose Charity.
