David A. O'Malley passed away at the Glen Ridge Nursing Center in Medford on Saturday, May 19, 2012. He was 87 years of age. David was born in Malden on April 7, 1925 to the late David J. & Mary Ann (Farrell) O'Malley. He was raised in Medford, attended Medford schools and entered the US Army on February 24, 1944. Mr. O'Malley served his country proudly during WWII and after his discharge he went on to graduated from Boston Trade School. David worked as a firefighter for the City of Melrose for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He also worked as a welder for several local companies for many years. Mr. O'Malley has been a resident of Melrose for the past 56 years, was one of the founding members of Incarnation Church and was a member of the VFW Harold O' Young Post #2394 in Melrose. David loved spending time with his family and enjoyed his trips to Cape Cod. He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Delia M. (Morris) O'Malley. Devoted father of David J. O'Malley & his wife Charlene of MD, John F. O'Malley & his wife Megen of Melrose, Noreen A. Gorham & her husband Paul of CT and Kevin B. O'Malley & his wife Wendy of NY. Loving grandfather of David, Patrick, Michael O'Malley , Matthew & Emma Gorham and Caitlin & Shannon O'Malley. Brother of the late Catherine V. O'Malley & Mary E. Fagan. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Wednesday, May 23rd at 9AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in David's memory at The Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4-8PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose with Military Honors. WWII Army Veteran & retired firefighter for the City of Melrose.
