David R. "Sully" Sullivan passed away suddenly at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, on Wednesday, September 15, 2010. He was 51 years of age. David was born in Medford, was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High school, Class of 1977. Sully lived in Melrose most of his life and in Malden for 24 years. Mr. Sullivan was a road supervisor for Kiessling Transportation in Norfolk, MA for over 10 years, transporting mentally handicapped children. He also worked as a substance abuse councilor at the Cushing House in South Boston for 5 years. Dave was a very giving person who would go out of his way to help people. He enjoyed helping the mentally handicap and was a dedicated mentor to many. Mr. Sullivan was an avid Boston sports fan, loved history, enjoyed playing music with the Princeman, Northstar & Bridgeman Drum Corps and was also an instructor of music. Sully cherished the times spent with his large extended family, enjoyed coaching little league baseball and liked playing softball. David was the loving husband of Rose (Piazza) Sullivan. Devoted father of Andrew J. Sullivan of Malden, Petty Officer Erin R. Sullivan of Norfolk, VA & Christopher D. Sullivan of Malden. Cherished son of the late John A. & Dorothy A. (Randall) Sullivan. Caring brother of John T. Sullivan & Kamariah of CA, Joan M. Feeley & Thomas of Andover, William F. Sullivan & Karen of Saugus, Barbara J. Nicholson & Clifford of N. Billerica, Mary Ann Sullivan of Brookline, Robert J. Sullivan of Lawrence, James E. Sullivan & Candice of Dover and Thomas M. Sullivan & Rebecca of Melrose. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews & friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday, Sept. 20th at 9AM. A Funeral Mass in celebration of David's life will be held at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.
