Delfino J. Del Fernandes passed away at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, on April 14, 2007, he was 82. Born and raised in Cambridge, Mr. Fernandes graduated from Cambridge Ringe High School and took classes at Northeastern University & MIT. Del was first and foremost a family man and was very dedicated to his wife, his four daughters and seven grandchildren. He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the 6th Armored Division throughout Europe. Mr. Fernandes worked for the Arthur D. Little Company in Cambridge for many years in the maintenance division. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, was an avid model train collector, enjoyed ballroom dancing and bird watching. He was a resident of Melrose for the past 50 years, was a former member of the K of C in Melrose and served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Marys Church & at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Husband of Mary C. (Donoghue) Fernandes. Father of Mary Ellen Morrissey , Jean M. Shay & her husband David all of Melrose, Pauline A. Re & her husband Steven of Medford and Ann M. Giso & her husband Joseph of Woburn. Brother of Frank Fernandes of Quincy and the late Mary Sico, Alice Costa, Madeline Rebello, Joseph Fernandes, Bella Westcott & Edith Napolean. Grandfather of Michael, Brian, Alexander, Garrett, Christopher, Michael G. & Allyson. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Wed. April 18th, at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Tues. 3-8PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose. WWII Army 6th Armored Division Veteran.
