Obituary

Delio T. Olivieri passed away at the Epoch Senior Care Center in Melrose on January 19, 2007, he was 75. Delio was born and raised in Italy and came to the US in 1958. While living in Italy Delio served 4 years in the Navy, he was a professional soccer player and had worked as a merchant marine. He has been a resident of Melrose for over 40 years. Delio worked as a supervisor at the Kytron Company in Wakefield for 30 years, Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for several years as a transporter in the radiology department, had worked at Caruso's Pizzeria & Ristorante in Melrose for many years and was a Reserved Deputy Sheriff for the Middlesex Sheriffs Office. He was a talented musician who enjoyed playing the guitar and singing at Carusos for all occasions. He also worked at the Collesium Restaurant in NH as entertainment of music for a few years. Delio entertained many people over the years like former NYC Mayor Rudolf Guiliani, Governor Weld, Governor Celucci, Governor Romney, Vice President Quale and for many other dignitaries through out his career. Mr. Olivieri donated his time playing for many charities and at events; The Jerry Lewis Telethon, Eddie Andelman Hot Dog Safari, the Larry Glick Show, Boston Magazine, Home for Happy Wanderers, the 1st Victorian Fair in Melrose, St. Anthonys Church for Padre Pio and at local nursing homes. He is well known for his friendly smile and warm greeting. Delio will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He is the husband of the late Barbara (Withington) Olivieri. Father of the late Francis Anthony 'Frank' Olivieri. Brother of Mario Olivieri of Italy and the late Antonio Olivieri. Uncle of Carlo, Rocco, Franca & Gina Olivieri. Very close friend of Mike Caruso, John Gregorio, former Mayor Dick Lyons, Joe Bossi, all the staff at Carusos and members of the Pasta Club at Carusos. Also survived by many additional nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Tuesday January 23rd at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 9AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Monday from 2-4 & 7-9PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
