Derine Theresa (Masho) Caruso of Malden peacefully passed away on Monday, August 15, 2022 at the age of 93. Derine was the daughter of Jerry and Derine (Bonsey) Masho. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Ignazio F. "Ned" Caruso. She is survived by her sister Delores Southwick, her brother Donald Masho and his wife Joan. Derine leaves behind her devoted children, Carl Caruso and his wife Elisa, Paul Caruso and his wife Jennifer Padula, Suzanne Collins and her husband Robert, Lisa-Jeanne Caruso-Reinold and her companion Jack Dooley, Andrea Fountain and her husband Richard Jr. Derine was proud grandmother to Crystal Chrysanthopoulos and her husband Alex, Christina Caruso and her fiancé Michael DiTrapano, Michele Caruso, Melissa Caruso, Juliana Limone and her husband Brett, Gina Caruso, Robert Collins III, Richard Fountain III and his wife Brittany, Carli Caruso, Meaghan Collins, Amanda Fountain, Julia Fountain, Rachel Collins, as well as Joshua and Connor Padula. She is also blessed with five beautiful great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and other family friends. Derine is predeceased by her brother Jerry Masho and sister-in-law Lillian, her brother-in-law Francis Southwick, her brother-in-law Carmello Caruso and wife Mary, sister-in-law Rose Costantino and her husband Matthew, and dear son-in-law William A. Reinold. Derine "Dee Dee" was born in Boston and lived as a young girl in Allston and Revere. Derine met her future husband at a military dance and upon his return from the air force they were married in 1954. She and Ignazio started their lives together in East Boston, but made Malden their permanent residence in 1961. She devotedly raised her five children, and later was employed as a secretary for Northeast Petroleum and Ganns Tire in Malden. Derine raised her sisters and brothers from a very young age and then after that she raised her 5 children, all born within 8 years of each other. After raising her own children Derine took care of her mother at for many years. After her mother died she took care of her sick husband until he died in 2011. Mrs. Caruso never wanted credit for all that self-sacrifice she did throughout her life. In her senior years, Derine was able to devote more time to her own passions, as an avid learner, taking Italian lessons and following her genealogy back to the Mayflower. Derine was naturally curious and continued to be a very active member of many of the senior groups in her local area, was a fervent animal lover who thoroughly enjoyed her long-time companion dog, Brighton. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home at 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday, August 19, 2022 from 9:00-10:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Catholic Burial at St. Joseph Church, 790 Salem St. Malden at 11:00AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Memorial donations may be made in Derine's name to Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland, Salem, MA 01970.
