Dimitri G. Sayegh died suddenly at Mass. General Hospital on Feb. 13th at the age of 86. He was born in Lebanon, raised in Egypt, graduated high school in Egypt and lived in Egypt until his mid 40's. Dimitri took over his father's grocery store in Egypt and ran the business until he was forced to move back to Lebanon. After moving to Lebanon he started his own company, the National Safety Fuse Factory in Lebanon which he ran for many years. When war broke out in Lebanon he lost his business, but he remained to help out his village during the war. Mr. Sayegh was instrumental in saving many lives in his village by putting himself in danger and negotiating with the enemy for food for his village. He was well respected by the enemy and was able to accomplish many good deeds for his village. Dimitri moved to Melrose in 1985 and has been a resident ever since. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Melrose and assisted as a handyman at church doing electrical repairs and maintanence. He was the husband of Magnolia (Zacca) Sayegh. Father of Samy D. Sayegh & his wife Badwa of Lebanon, Samir D. Sayegh & his wife Eileen of Melrose and Queeny A. Khoury & her husband Amine of Lebanon. Grandfather of Fionna P. Sayegh, Tara M. Sayegh, Michael A. Khoury and Joelle A. Khoury. Great grandfather of Chantal. Funeral services will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday Feb. 17th at 11AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose on Tues. at 11:30AM.
