Donald C. "Donnie" Knight Jr. died by a car accident in Middleton on Sunday, September 20, 2009. He was 59 years of age. Donnie was born in Winchester on October 29, 1949 to Rita (DelRossi) Knight of FL and the late Donald C. Knight Sr. He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1967, where he played football & hockey. Mr. Knight lived in Melrose most of his life and Topsfield, MA for 5 years. Donnie worked at Bobcat of Boston in Reading for 20 years before starting his own business in 1999. He owned and operated Knight Equipment Rental on Tremont St. in Melrose for over 10 years. Mr. Knight was a devoted family man with a great sense of humor, a warm personality, was very compassionate and always ready to lend a hand. Donnie was an avid golfer, a longtime member of Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose, enjoyed traveling, riding his motorcycle and summering at Little Ossippee Lake in Wateboro, Maine for the past 27 years. Mr. Knight was the loving husband of Lois A. (McDermott) Knight. Devoted father of Courtney Knight of Malden & Brian D. Knight of Topsfield. Cherished son of Rita (DelRossi) Knight of FL and the late Donald C. Knight Sr. Beloved brother of Terry D. Knight of N. Reading. Loving brother-in-law of Erin Knight of N. Reading and Robert J. & Maureen McDermott of NH. Loving uncle of Kerri-Anne Howard, Robert T. McDermott, Chandler, Cameron, Rachael & Madylin Knight. Also survived by numerous relatives & friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Saturday, Sept. 26th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Friday from 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
