Donald ‘Donny’ MacKenzie, 78, of Melrose, Massachusetts, and formerly of Somerville, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026.

Donald proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife, Deborah MacKenzie; his parents, Arthur and Elizabeth MacKenzie; and his siblings, Arthur MacKenzie and Jane Murphy. He is survived by his loving son, Scott MacKenzie, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer, both of Melrose. He was also a cherished uncle to many nephews who will remember him fondly.

Donald’s family and friends will remember him for his quiet strength, unwavering devotion to those he loved, and proud service to his country. He also had a lifelong passion for history and greatly enjoyed learning about the past. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster Street, Melrose. A Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 AM at the Gately Funeral Home. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Family & Friends respectfully invited to attend.
