Donald J. Petrino, of Melrose, died at the Walden Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Concord on April 11, 2014 at the age of 82. Donald was born in Everett, raised in Everett & Melrose and attended Melrose Schools. He served his country in the National Guard for 4 years and also in the Air Force for 4 years during the Korean War. Don resided in Melrose since 1956, was a member of the Stoneham V.F.W., Stoneham American Legion, the AMVETS in Somerville for many years and worked as a Foreman of Plant Operations at the Mclean Hospital for 25 years before his retirement in 1994. He loved all kinds of music and would play the harmonica at Celley's Pub in Lynn with his son's country band & many friends. Donald was a "Jack of all trades", could fix anything and enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk, old musicals with Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Red Skelton and Abbott & Costello. He always had joke to share and enjoyed spending his summers in Acton, Maine with family & friends. Donald was the beloved husband of the late Pearl E. (Wooldridge) Petrino. Loving father of Donald C. Petrino& his wife Darlene of FL, Karen T. Welch & her husband Doug of Melrose, William A. Petrino & his wife Susan of AZ, Wayne E. Petrino & his wife Christine of Bridgewater and Rick P. Petrino& his wife Kim of Peabody. Caring brother of Philip & William Petrino, both of Melrose and John F. Petrino of Billerica and the late Kathleen (Petrino) Giggie. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, on Saturday, May 10th, at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Arrangements by Gately Funeral Home Melrose.
