Obituary

Donald P. Sullivan, 77, of Naples, Florida passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on October 7, 2012. Born on February 7, 1935 in Melrose, a son of the late Michael and Annie Sullivan. He was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School, class of 1954. He served as a Navy corpsman during Korean War, then joined the Melrose Police Department in 1960. In 1985 he obtained his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. After retiring in 1991 he and his family moved to Naples, Florida. Mr. Sullivan was a former member of the K of C Council 128 in Melrose where he was a 3rd degree Knight and was a former member of the Melrose Elks. Don traveled to Ireland with the Boston Emerald Society and walked in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Cork. He loved taking trips to New Hampshire and York Beach in Maine and going dancing with his wife Pat. Don was an avid reader and was a devoted grandfather to his three grandchildren Jackie, Matthew & Michael. Mr. Sullivan was the devoted husband of Pat with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. He was the loving father of Maureen and her husband Brian of Naples, Timothy of Naples, Kevin and his wife Jessica of Salisbury, N.C. He was the cherished grandfather of Jackie and Chris, Matthew and Michael. He was the brother of the late Leo, Catherine, Ruth, Anna, Lawrence, Margaret, Mary, Dorothy, Joseph and Daniel. He was the wonderful brother-in-law to Sandy and Pat, Maureen, John, Peter and Lori-Ann, Joseph and Florence. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Friday October 19th at 9:00AM, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:00-8:00PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose with military honors. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a memorial donation to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton, NH 03086 or Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
