Donald F. Whynot, of Laconia, NH, formerly of Melrose & Peabody, died on November 18th, 2017 at the age of 84. Donald was born in Melrose on May 21, 1933 to Arthur & Christina (Mossey) Whynot. He was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School in 1951. Donald was the goaltender for the 1950 Melrose High Hockey Team that won the State Championship. He then went on to earn a full scholarship to Northeastern where he earned a Business Degree and played goaltender for their hockey team and played in the first Beanpot. Donald enjoyed skiing at Gunstock Mountain with his family as well as playing tennis. He loved spending summers at the family home in Center Barnstead, NH. He was a former member of the Melrose Kiwanis Club. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann E. (Talieri) Whynot. Loving father of Donna L. Clark and her husband Mark of Peabody, and Douglas A. Whynot of North Reading. Cherished grandfather of Debra Hardimon & her husband Mike of Tewksbury, Andrew Whynot & his wife Jeanne of Somerville, Heather Nevers & her husband Travis of Tewksbury, and Brian Clark & his girlfriend Michelle Reiss of Malden. Proud great-grandfather of Alex, Cameron, Daniel, and Layla. Brother of the late Helen MacNeil, Mary Dunn, and James Wallace Whynot. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, Nov., 26, 2017 from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Funeral Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 27, at 9 AM, followed by a 10 AM Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 9 Herbert St., Melrose. Interment in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Donald's name to a charity of your choice.
